Due to a conflict, the Garden Program on "Louisiana and Mississippi Butterflies" will be postponed to a later date. In its place, the Pass Christian Public Library and the Pass Christian Garden Club are partnering with the Mississippi Native Plant Society to host a screening of “The Extraordinary Caterpillar”. Using breathtaking macro videography, this movie reveals the astonishing abilities and hidden lives of these creatures. It will show a world of wonder that has been right outside our doors all along. Following the movie, Jennifer Buchanan will lead a Question and Answer session.

 Join us on Thursday, September 10th for “Pedal in the Pass” monthly community bicycle ride which takes place on the 2nd Thursday from March through September.  We meet near Scenic Drive in War Memorial Park in Pass Christian and the ride starts at 6 pm.  Enjoy an easy, no drop bicycle ride through downtown Pass Christian. Riders are welcome to join the group for an optional dinner to follow at one of our downtown restaurants (dutch treat).  Everyone is welcome.  Bikes and helmets are required.  Weather permitting. What if everyone in Pass Christian read the same book and then joined together to talk about it?  That is the idea behind One Book, One Pass! Our 2026 selection is In My Time of Dying by award winning journalist and author Sebastian Junger.  Over the next few months, book discussions and programs will be held throughout the community, culminating in the author presentation by Sebastian Junger on Thursday, November 19th.

Prior to the Author Presentation, everyone is cordially invited to attend a Coffee Chat with discussion of In My Time of Dying on Tuesday, September 22nd at 9:30 am at Roberts Place Café (233 Davis Avenue) in downtown Pass Christian. Coffee and tea will be provided compliments of Roberts Place Café. Pastries and breakfast items will be available for purchase during the discussion.

Meet and hear Chris Danielson, author of Brother Outsider, Brother Insider, a biography of Pass Christian native Lawrence Guyot, on Tuesday, September 22nd from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at 301 East Scenic.

A Pass Christian native, Lawrence Thomas Guyot Jr. (1939-2012), known simply as "Guyot" (pronounced ghee-aught), was a pivotal yet underrecognized figure in the civil rights movement. As a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) field secretary in the 1960s, he battled southern poverty and racism, championing voting rights for Black Mississippians. His leadership in the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) highlighted tensions between the MFDP's electoral goals and SNCC's more radical stance. Guyot later moved into Washington, DC, politics, working alongside leaders like Marion Barry, shifting from a rural civil rights organizer to an urban political strategist.

Chris Danielson's nuanced portrayal of Guyot offers a fresh perspective on the civil rights movement. Through Guyot's activism, Brother Outsider, Brother Insider invites a reassessment of the era and the individuals who shaped it.

The Pass Christian Historical Society will hold its monthly luncheon on Monday, September 28th at 12 pm (Noon). In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Ship Island Ferry, we will feature Captain Louis Skrmetta.  He will speak on “The Skrmetta Family Legacy:  From BRAC to Biloxi”. 

The Historical Society is located at 201 East Scenic Drive in Pass Christian. Lunch starts at 12pm (noon) and the cost is $15 for members and $17 for non-members.
